Lecture Poetry

The year was 2018. The conference was "Modern Topics on Quantum Information". The location was the International Institute of Physics at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, Brazil. Something was in the air ... beach sand? The sound of waves crashing against the shore just over the hill from the university campus? Whatever it was, I was struggling to stay awake. The words of the speakers drifted in and out of consciousness, re-forming themselves into poems.

This Is Just A Measurement
(from a talk by Paul Skrzypczyk)

Maximize the ensemble,
Advantage if you want;
You can prove
You don't yet know
The optimal ensemble.
Go back to the ideal
Uniformly at random.

Error Corrections
(from a talk by Mehmet Burak Sahinoglu)

At least know for now that
You may not be happy
I won't teach you error correction
You must first look at the Word
To be able to correct it.
Sometimes the Word is not enough;
Sometimes the Sentence is not enough;
Each Letter is meaningless by itself.

These Shannon-Type Entities
(from a talk by Paul Skrzypczyk)

Well again,
Think about the game.
At some point we thought
We were going to stop here.
And so we were kind of discussing —
We wanted to ask —
(I've forgotten if I'm honest)
After the quantum state comes out of a channel —
Why do I take this
As my definition?
